Engineering and construction companies form first global exchange

In late June, an independent global business-to-business venture was announced by four leading engineering and construction companies. The partnership will initially be known as AECventure and will include AMEC, Bovis Lend Lease, Hochtief and Turner and Skanska.

The idea behind the exchange is to revolutionise the entire architectural, engineering and construction (AEC) industry: by the linking of global and regional portals through a business model. This model, rumoured to be the first of its kind in the industry, is designed to create efficiencies and effectiveness for all aspects of the construction and engineering industry. The market is rumoured to be worth some $3.3 trillion per annum, employs 15% of the global workforce as well as representing 10% of global GDP.

The launch of the exchange is slated for the fourth quarter 2000. The founding partners are in negotiations with other partners and are looking to expand the alliance globally.
