WRB plans 30MW solar C&I programme
Florida-based WRB is planning to deploy 30MW of commercial and industrial rooftop solar across Jamaica beginning as early as 2017, IJGlobal has learned.
The company is planning to implement a permanent programme aimed at installing 5MW to 3MW rooftop systems for C&I customers. The nascent initiative is in the planning stages and would seek to deploy systems reflecting the most up to date technology available with potential to integrate storage components, a source close to WRB told IJGlobal.
WRB recently completed installation of Jamaica’s first utility-scale solar facility, the $63.33 million, 20MW Content solar plant in Content Village, Clarendon Parrish, Jamaica. It was financed with $15.83 million in equity and a $47 million debt package from the US Overseas Private Investment Corporation under the US government’s Caribbean Energy Security Initiative, according to IJGlobal data. Construction began on the Content project in July 2015.
A power purchase agreement was signed for the 20MW solar facility with the Jamaican Public Service Company in September 2014.
In its Jamaica Energy Policy 2009-2030, the country outlined a 20% renewable resource target by 2030.
Along with its presence in the Jamaican market, WRB is the owner of Grenada’s public utility Grenada Public Services.
