Susana – who will be speaking on a panel at IJ LatAm which runs from 10-12 March (2025) and is being staged at 1 Hotel South Beach, Miami – gives her view of the market in a far-reaching conversation.

She says: “We are certainly seeing an increase in equity investment in Latin America for infrastructure and this has to do with both circumstantial matters recently – particularly with the rise in interest rates, but also more fundamental drivers.

“So, investments are being driven by growth in the markets that we have experienced, and also by very strong fundamentals of Latin America when it comes to investing in infrastructure.

“In recent years, the rise in interest rates has really shifted the projects from being able to afford a lot of debt into their investments and they have shifted a little bit more into equity or short-term financing.

“Vehicles like bridge financings and mini-perms have become more prevalent but in many circumstances those instruments are not so accessible… and that has left a very broad opportunity for equity to drive into that gap.”
