IJInvestor Awards 2024 – Sponsor of the Year, North America

Vinci Concessions was named Sponsor of the Year in North America by the independent panel of judges who were impressed by the company’s remarkable projects.

Judges were so impressed with Vinci’s submission, they pulled out a category usually reserved for the IJGlobal Awards.

Vinci Concessions had an exceptionally active year in North America in 2024.

In April 2024,  Vinci Highways completed the acquisition of 100% of NWP HoldCo LLC, the concession company responsible for Northwest Parkway—a 14 km tolled section of the Denver ring road in Colorado—for approximately $1.2 billion (equity value at 100%).

This was Vinci’s first major acquisition in the US, strengthening its presence in North America.

The submission said: “This acquisition presented significant challenges, particularly in negotiating the portability of existing debt and securing a rating reaffirmation, both of which were successfully managed.”

The toll road connects northwest Denver to Denver International Airport. Northwest Parkway has a concession contract for the next 83 years, or until 2106 and is considered the longest remaining term in the USA roads sector. The original concession agreement was signed in 2007.

VINCI Airports, concessionaire of 6 airports in the Dominican Republic since 2016 through its subsidiary Aerodom, has been granted by the Government of the Dominican Republic a 30-year extension of its concession contract, originally scheduled for 2030.

Under the extended concession contract, from 2030 to 2060, Vinci Airports will be responsible for financing, operating, maintaining, developing and upgrading the modernization of the airports under concession. Vinci Airports will notably build and operate a new passenger terminal at Santo Domingo airport and continue to implement its environmental action plan, including expansion of solar power plants and deployment of wastewater treatment plant as well as waste sorting centers.

An upfront payment of $775 million will be made by Aerodom to the Dominican state, while the company will also invest $830 million in the airports’ infrastructure throughout the concession period, including $250 million for the new terminal to be built in Santo Domingo.

The Georgia State Road and Tollway Authority (SRTA) has entrusted Vinci Highways with managing free-flow and dynamically-priced transactions on its 107km network around Atlanta. The contract also includes handling transactions using E-ZPass and parking fees at Atlanta’s international airport. This 7-year contract will be fulfilled by ViaPlus (a Vinci Highways subsidiary specialised in free-flow traffic management systems).
