IJInvestor Awards 2024 – Fund Manager of the Year, Latin America
BTG Pactual has been awarded Fund Manager of the Year in Latin America, with judges lauding its reputation in the region.
Judges were also impressed with the manager’s long track record in energy, making its managed portfolio the fourth largest every platform in Brazil.
The submission said: “The BTG Pactual Private Capital Team has operated in many sectors of the economy and within numerous areas of the energy sector. From the first Brazilian infrastructure investment fund back in 2005 – mostly focused on generation assets – to this year’s transmission line auction success, the team has been able to deliver excellence in infrastructure greenfield projects, as well as improving results in brownfield investments, always delivering impact to the communities around the projects, to the safety of the national power grid and, consequently, to the investors.
“Focusing on the infrastructure ventures of the team, there has been success in investing in a range of projects such as thermal, wind and hydro in the generation space, in addition to transmission projects, as well as logistics, water & sanitation, digital infrastructure, toll roads, among others.”
Over the last year, the BTG Pactual Private Capital Team has been focused on delivering strong operational performance to its energy assets, such as Linhares (generation) and Tropicália (transmission).
The submission said: “Regarding Linhares, the team was successful in obtaining new energy capacity contracts in order to help strengthen the Brazilian power grid, which has been weakened by one of the biggest water crises suffered by the country, with the lowest inflow rates in the last 91 years. Ensuring the continuity and security of the energy supply, Linhares sold 34.6MW of physical guarantee for energy generation until 2025.
“Additionally, the team participated in national auctions and was successful in bidding in the second largest ever transmission line auction in the country, securing over 6 billion reais in capex on 3 lines. The projects will better the inflow of energy from the NE of Brazil - where most renewable energy projects are at - to the regions with the largest rate of consumption, such as the SE (São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, for example).”
