IJInvestor Awards 2024 – Placement Agent, Europe

UBS Private Funds Group has been awarded Placement Agent of the Year in Europe, judges were impressed with the mix of fund types and raises the company worked on throughout the judging period.

During the judging period, UBS has advised on 4 infrastructure funds that held final closes, amounting to about $4 billion of total commitments from institutions across the globe. UBS also advised on a further six infrastructure funds during the period that are still actively marketing, targeting an additional about $16 billion of capital.

The funds that reached final close are:

  • Ancala Partners Fund III
  • Seraya Partners Fund I
  • DigitalBridge’s Private Credit Fund
  • Continuation Vehicle with Summa Equity around NG

One judge said: “UBS demonstrates a track record of very successful fundraising for market leading funds.”

Another member of the judging panel said: “A good submission showing a variety of fund raises across type of manager and type of fund. This mix I feel gives them the edge for this award.”

The judges also pointed out that UBS faced several complexities and challenges, especially in light of the increasingly challenging fundraising market for infrastructure and energy funds during the judging period.

UBS has successfully overcome these challenges as demonstrated with the closing of its 4 infrastructure mandates at or above their fundraising targets during the judging period.

The submission said: “The four infrastructure fundraises as part of our submission include both primary fundraises (Ancala, DigitalBridge and Seraya) and secondaries transactions (Summa Equity), first time-funds (Seraya) and established managers (Ancala, DigitalBridge and Summa Equity) across Europe (Ancala, Summa Equity), US (DigitalBridge) and Asia (Seraya).

“These managers are executing both equity and debt deal flow across the full spectrum of infrastructure sectors including energy transition, traditional renewables, digital infrastructure, transport, social and utilities. This demonstrates the breadth of experience the UBS Private Funds Group has and the trust our clients put in us across the globe. We have advised these clients on commingled fund structures as well as co-investment vehicles and in the case of Summa Equity, a highly bespoke continuation vehicle which involved conducting a competitive two stage auction progress, underpinned by optimal structuring of terms to ensure deal certainty.”
