Infra Dig – floating Gazelle Wind Power

Jon Salazar – founder and chief executive of Gazelle Wind Power – joins the Infra Dig podcast to run listeners through his fascinating company that is driving innovation in the floating offshore wind sector.

Speaking to IJGlobal editorial director Angus Leslie Melville, Jon takes the listener through what his company is doing, the technology it is pushing and how he believes this will massively reduce costs and alleviate supply chain issues in the sector.

Jon – who cut his teeth in the infra sector at Deloitte – runs listeners through the drivers for investment into renewable energy to stay on track with 1.5 degree global warming, which involves the delivery of 2,000GW of offshore wind.

To his mind (and the sector’s in general), floating offshore wind – in water depths of more than 60 metres from the surface level of the sea – will pay a significant role in the bid to achieve these goals.

Jon believes the floating offshore wind (FLOW) sector is worth €650 billion ($699bn) and will amount to more than 300GW.

The Gazelle Wind Power solution uses significantly less concrete and slashes back the amount of steel used in the floating foundations from 6,000 to 10,000 tonnes to around 2,500 tonnes.
