I Squared’s money man quits
Andreas Moon – lauded as “rainmaker” and the “money man” at I Squared – has this week quit his role as head of IR and fundraising at the Miami-based infrastructure fund.
In a move that has taken many by surprise, Moon – who is credited for raising more than $37 billion over the last decade for I Squared – has handed in his notice and is understood now to be on gardening leave.
This development will have come as a blow to I Squared which has suffered a spate of senior exits in recent times… and will be all the more impactful as the fund manager is losing its No1 fundraiser at a time when this function is becoming increasingly challenging and established relationships are valued.
There is no word on Moon’s next step, but it will likely be to another senior fundraising role elsewhere – once gardening leave concludes.
Moon was promoted to full partner level last April (2022) alongside Chenhua Shen and Enrico Del Prete as fund partners (junior partners)… a step-up prompted to no little degree by the rather spectacular exit of 3 leading lights – Danny Fein, Mark Clark and Tom Murray.
Around the same time, I Squared – which was founded by Gautam Bhandari, Adil Rahmathulla and Sadek Wahba – was rocked by the senior departures of Thomas Lefebvre and Chucri Hjelly.
Moon joined I Squared at the end of 2012 having worked his way up the Morgan Stanley ladder to the level of VP at Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Partners (2007-12) and is widely lauded as a leader in his field.
