Obituary: Daniel Muir

It is with great regret that IJGlobal announces the passing of Daniel Muir, one of the best-known head hunters in the international infrastructure and energy arena.

Danny (42) died suddenly on Friday near his home in Edinburgh, Scotland. He is survived by a wife and two daughters.

News of Danny’s passing (pictured right) was first aired on LinkedIn by One Search colleague Dan McCarthy, alongside whom he had been working for the last 2-and-a-half years as UK-based practice leader for infrastructure equity.

Danny was first and foremost a head hunter par excellence with deep connections across the industry and was renowned for taking on challenging roles that spanned the globe – while also being something of a wine connoisseur.

Speaking to IJGlobal, Dan McCarthy said: “Danny came to One Search two-and-a-half years ago having been a senior adviser to the company for 4 years prior to that. He took our business to new heights as a credible, retained alternative to the SHREK firms.

“This year alone Danny led a project for Antin Infrastructure Partners that included 15 hires. He was also responsible for building the Renewable Power Capital platform for PPIB from the CEO down to analysts over the last 12 months.”

Writing on LinkedIn, Dan said: “Anyone who knew Danny knew how much he loved his wife Carrie and their two beautiful daughters. Words cannot express their loss, as they now mourn their husband and father.

“Danny had revolutionized One Search over the last 2 years, breathing new life into the company and inspiring a team which has grown very close to him. It broke my heart to have to tell them all yesterday that he was gone.”

He added: “On a personal level, he became a close friend, a mentor – I never told him I saw him as such...but he knew – and a constant source of advice and ideas.”

Danny started his working career at KPMG as a corporate finance analyst in 1999, before swiftly making the switch to executive search where he specialised for the rest of his career, making him one of the most instantly-recognised head hunters in the sector.

It was at The Auriga Partnership (2006-19) that Danny bedded down his career in the infra/energy space working alongside Michael Naylor, prior to joining One Search in April 2019.
